Keynote Speaker

Vernard Lewis, Ph.D.

Emeritus Scientist, UC Berkeley

Dr. Vernard Lewis is an internationally acclaimed expert in termite research, with over 50 years of experience. Dr. Lewis was also a member of the United Nations Global Termite Expert Group and has traveled to over thirty-five countries as a researcher, consultant, and insect pest troubleshooter. Dr. Lewis has published over 150 papers and delivered over 700 presentations on termites, bedbugs, and cockroaches, most of which were directed to educating pest control professionals.

Khoirul Himmi Setiawan, Ph.D.

Research Professor at the Research Center for Applied Zoology, BRIN (Indonesia)

Dr. Himmi is a Research Professor at BRIN, Indonesia, specializing in the biology and management of wood-attacking organisms. He earned his Master’s and Ph.D. from Kyoto University, focusing on drywood termite nesting using X-ray CT techniques. A 2016 JSPS HOPE Fellow, he led termite management research under JASTIP (2017–2025). He has held key leadership roles in regional termite research and currently chairs MAPERKA and serves on ASPPHAMI’s expert board (2025–2030).
